Govender struggles to explain millions in payments at Madlanga Commission

Colonel Deena Govender of the KwaZulu-Natal Hawks faced tough questioning at the Madlanga Commission regarding R2.3 million deposited into his bank account between August and December 2023. He claimed that R1.5 million was a loan from FNB, while the rest came from various sources, but his explanations were challenged by evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson and criticized by commission chair Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga. Govender also admitted to receiving over R300,000 in cash payments from S. Paardothman and acknowledged asking his accountant to arrange an electronic transfer for another sum.
