Governor Mutula Kilonzo Demands Dualling of Mombasa-Nairobi Highway After Years of Stalling

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has called on the government to expedite the dualling of the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway following a fatal accident at Salama that claimed 17 lives. He urged urgent safety measures at Salama and emphasized the need to progress with the highway expansion project, which has been stalled for nearly a decade since plans were announced in 2017. The project, initially involving a new expressway by Everstrong Capital, was canceled due to high costs, and the government now plans to upgrade the existing highway into a tolled, access-controlled dual carriageway with at least four lanes, with KeNHA leading the efforts.
