Grand-Bassam / School safety: ONPC and UNDP also raise awareness among primary school pupils

On November 5, 2026, the ONPC and UNDP held a school safety awareness campaign at Groupe scolaire Phare and Groupe scolaire Municipalité in Grand-Bassam, following an earlier phase at secondary schools. About 2,400 pupils, teachers and administrative staff took part in practical and classroom sessions on first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, recovery positions, clearing blocked airways and emergency alert procedures. Participants also learned how to use fire extinguishers and put out a cooking fire with a damp towel. The initiative, financially supported by Japan, was represented by Lieutenant Colonel Lavry Olivier for the ONPC and Ouattara Peyogori for UNDP.

The organization urged the road maintenance contractor and provincial authorities to take urgent steps to maintain the route and rehabilitate the most damaged structures. The contractor blamed delays on insecurity linked to ADF attacks but said machinery is already on site to continue maintenance and rehabilitation work.
