Gulf states seek UN mandate for force to protect Hormuz

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi, called for UN approval for a force to protect the Strait of Hormuz from Iranian attacks. Iran has closed the strait, threatening fuel supplies and disrupting the global economy. A draft resolution proposed by Bahrain, supported by the United States, has been modified due to objections from Russia, China, and France. France described a military operation to free the strait as 'unrealistic.'
