Haiti: With Guterres' visit, another empty promise from the UN?

Antonio Guterres visited Haiti on Tuesday to express UN solidarity, but the visit faces skepticism after two decades of contested missions. Since 2004, MINUSTAH and MINUJUSTH have been marred by sexual abuse scandals and a cholera outbreak that killed nearly 10,000. Despite promises, gangs still control much of Port-au-Prince, with over 2,300 killed in 2026. Lawyer Sandra Wisner says the UN logo is associated with abuse and impunity.
