Nairobi-based teacher Alice Wawira used a noise-measuring app on August 31 to demonstrate that a bus was playing music at volumes at least 21 units above the safe threshold. The app recorded an average of 106 decibels, with a maximum of 114 decibels, well above the 85-decibel safety limit. She described it as the most hazardous noise level she encountered. Experts warn about the risk of hearing loss from exposure to such high noise levels.
