Dakar NOLA, a New Orleans restaurant led by Senegalese-born chef Serigne Mbaye, has earned its first Michelin star. It is one of only three establishments across the southern United States to receive a new star this year. Its tasting menu combines Senegalese cuisine with Louisiana ingredients, featuring dishes such as thieboudienne, Gulf crab with black-eyed peas, and shrimp soup with okra sauce. The honor follows Mbaye’s James Beard Award for Best Chef: South, which he won earlier this year.
