The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has ordered that lawyer Douglas Shaw, who is leading a R60 billion class action against four major banks, may not practice as an attorney at this time. This ruling follows an application by the Legal Practice Council (LPC) seeking to suspend or remove Shaw from the roll of legal practitioners for lacking a valid Fidelity Fund Certificate. The LPC's urgent application did not proceed on Tuesday as the parties indicated they wanted to exchange court papers.
