Hijacked Iranian vessel’s movement raises fears of attacks on commercial ships

Armed Somali pirates hijacked the Iranian fishing vessel Azini off Somalia’s northeastern coast, and 23 people are missing. The European Union’s Maritime Security Centre Indian Ocean (MSCIO) said it received a report of the hijacking on October 29, 2026, at about 9am UTC. The vessel’s movement has raised fears that it could be used to launch further attacks on commercial ships in the Indian Ocean.
