Lamu Port set a new milestone by handling approximately 5,200 TEUs from the Iranian-flagged vessel MV Hamouna, which measures 366 meters in length and carried a total of 14,500 TEUs. This is the first port in the region to discharge such a volume at once, surpassing Mombasa Port. KPA Managing Director Captain William Ruto highlighted that this development demonstrates Lamu's growing significance in regional maritime trade. The port's ability to handle large vessels is supported by its deep-water harbor and modern berthing infrastructure with a depth of about 17.5 meters.
