The BBC News homepage features several top stories, including a Covid inquiry report rejecting ministers’ claim that a “protective ring” was in place around care homes at the start of the pandemic. Bereaved families call the report a devastating account of failures and describe the government’s promise to protect care homes as a “cruel lie”. Other headlines include plans to deploy UK jets to defend Saudi Arabia from Houthi attacks and a Google Cloud outage affecting banks and court video links. The page also lists political and other news from the UK, Ukraine, Australia and Canada.
