U.S.: Donald Trump Jr. Acknowledges Iran War’s Role in Republican Defeat

After Republicans suffered a setback in the November 3, 2026 midterm elections, Donald Trump Jr. said the war against Iran had shifted voters’ attitudes and contributed to the defeat. He noted that his father’s coalition included independents, former Democrats and people who rarely voted, some of whom were alienated by the conflict. Trump Jr. said higher gasoline prices hit households directly and changed their opinions. An AP-NORC poll published October 1 found that 69% of Americans thought the war was not worth fighting, while 28% approved of Donald Trump’s handling of Iran.

Ukraine: Who Is Kostiantyn Vlasenko, the Soldier Who Amputated Himself to Survive

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to Kostiantyn Vlasenko, a 49-year-old soldier in the 30th Mechanized Brigade. After his position at Vertun, near Sinkivka, was destroyed on February 15, 2026, he suffered severe injuries to both legs and remained hidden for months, watching Russian forces and relaying information to his comrades. Gangrene caused him to lose one foot, and he amputated the other himself. He was evacuated on October 4, 2026, by an Ayudag-6 heavy hexacopter piloted by Serhii Stoian, after spending 491 days at the same position, including 232 alone.

The emir stressed the need to continue dialogue and use diplomacy to resolve disputes and prevent further escalation. Qatar-led diplomatic efforts have intensified following Israeli-American threats and calls this week between Iran’s foreign minister and his Gulf counterparts. Trump acknowledged that tensions, which drove up oil prices, had contributed to the Republicans’ midterm election losses.
