US launches task force to disrupt Iran’s land-based supply routes

CENTCOM announced Task Force Iron Gate to prevent Iran from transporting advanced weapons and other materials overland, expanding the US naval blockade of Iranian ports. Based in Tampa, Florida, the force will coordinate with US agencies to restrict the movement of weapons systems, dual-use technologies, sanctioned materials and illicit revenue across Iran’s land borders and the Caspian Sea. Former US official Michael Mulroy said the task force would identify weapons supply routes and how Iran transports energy, while a possible escalation ordered by President Donald Trump could target economic infrastructure. CENTCOM also said it had disabled a commercial cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman as part of the blockade.

Cameroon – PEREKOP in Douala: Russia establishes a foothold in the Gulf of Guinea

The PEREKOP training ship of Russia’s Baltic Fleet arrived at the Port of Douala on November 5, 2026, for a two-day stopover. More than 100 metres long, it carries Russian cadets and, on some legs, foreign trainees; it left Russia in early July for a 30,000-nautical-mile voyage. During the visit, its crew met senior Cameroonian military officials and took part in a joint exercise with a patrol boat. The visit reflects growing military cooperation between Russia and Cameroon.

Canary Islands’ El Hierro declares emergency amid migrant, refugee influx

Authorities on El Hierro in Spain’s Canary Islands have declared an emergency and asked Madrid for help after more than 3,300 migrants and refugees arrived in about 30 boats since the start of November. The island has roughly 11,400 residents and is seeking temporary accommodation, while hospital conditions have become “undesirable,” island council head Alpidio Armas said. Maritime rescue services rescued 3,261 people off the Canary Islands in the first six days of the month. Regional leader Fernando Clavijo said arrivals were nearing 2024 record levels and described the situation as “absolutely unsustainable.”
