“This House Is Much More Than a Building”: United Nations House Inaugurated in Diamniadio

Senegal and the United Nations system marked the UN’s 81st anniversary on October 23, 2026, at the new United Nations House in Diamniadio, built by the Senegalese state to host UN entities in the country. Minister Cheikh Niang reaffirmed Senegal’s commitment to the UN’s ideals of peace, justice and prosperity and pledged government support for relocating UN personnel to the complex. Resident Coordinator Aminata Maiga described the facility as a way to improve coordination among agencies and bring UN work closer to the population, especially young people, women and communities. The complex houses UN agencies, funds and programmes, regional offices, and the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel.

Russia says Ukraine, US talks are planned for Abu Dhabi

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine and the United States are planned for the first half of November in Abu Dhabi. Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the planned meeting and called for it to take place with America, Europe and Ukraine’s other partners. The announcement followed US envoy Steve Witkoff’s meetings with Zelensky and European leaders in Oslo, and then with Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg. Putin said the discussions would focus on security arrangements for a final peace deal rather than a short-term truce.

US could strike Iran this weekend, envoy says

Tom Barrack, the US ambassador to Turkey and envoy on Syria, said a US strike on Iran could happen as soon as this weekend. He said Donald Trump remained open to a deal, while warning that threats against the United States, its allies and the Gulf would bring consequences but not regime change. His remarks come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly vowed to topple Iran’s government and Trump has signalled that strikes could resume after a diplomatic deadlock.
