A homeowner was fined Ksh200,000 by Kenya’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) for pointing CCTV cameras at neighbours’ property. Installed in 2021 to improve neighbourhood security, the cameras were found to infringe on privacy and peaceful enjoyment of the neighbours’ homes. Two neighbours filed a complaint with the ODPC on July 22, 2025, under Kenya’s Data Protection Act; the dispute continued even after the cameras were removed. The ruling says home security does not justify monitoring another person’s private space.
