How a dead Kenyan Politician became pawn in the regional fuel scandal

A deceased Kenyan politician, Cyrus Jirongo, who died in December 2025, has become a central figure in a regional fuel corruption scandal. Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni claimed that Jirongo had told him in 2019 that Uganda was being exploited by middlemen in Nairobi, but Jirongo was never a senator and died in a car accident. Museveni stated he took action in 2023 after connecting Uganda with Vitol to lower fuel prices, but his figures are disputed by Kenya's Energy Ministry.
