How firms drain Sh1trn from Kenya through hidden foreign procurement

Kenya is losing up to Sh1 trillion in economic activity annually due to less scrutinized foreign procurement contracts. A technical policy report backing the proposed Local Content Bill, 2025, presented by Laikipia Woman Representative Jane Kagiri, reveals that multinationals route billions of shillings abroad for services. The report estimates that annual service cost leakage could range between Sh136 billion and Sh185 billion.
