How to ‘eat’ our children: Call them labour, send them abroad

Governments in the region, particularly Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, have established systems for sending workers abroad without adequate protections. Cases like that of three Ugandans who went missing in Thailand highlight the dangers of human trafficking. Despite significant revenue from licensing recruitment agencies, protections for migrant workers remain insufficient. The current situation serves as a warning to other countries in the region that may replicate this model without ensuring worker safety.
