How Victoria Compares to the other Five Great Lakes

Lake Victoria is the second largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area, measuring about 59,947 square kilometers according to some sources, and up to 68,800 square kilometers according to others. Compared to Lake Superior, Victoria is about 73% of its surface area but is much shallower, with a maximum depth of 80 meters compared to 406 meters for Superior. In comparison with Lake Huron, Victoria is nearly identical in surface area but becomes about 15% larger according to the higher measurement.
