I Drove a Taxi to Fund My Education in the US, Tinubu Says

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu recalled driving a taxi and taking other jobs in the United States to pay for his education, after delaying the start of school to save money. He cited education initiatives by his administration, including more than 372 billion naira in student loans, the rehabilitation of 38 technical colleges, and free fees and supplies for students at federal and selected state technical colleges. Tinubu also pointed to an agreement with ASUU that raises academic staff remuneration by 40%, alongside investments in medical schools and nursing education. He said more than one million children who had been out of school had returned to learning, while the government was expanding teacher development and girls’ education.
