Seventeen-year-old Aminata Sy was found dead inside a bag on October 25 in the Lao Demba neighborhood of Podor, with her hands tied and her face covered by a scarf. Autopsy findings contradicted his initial account that she had hit her head against a wall. The Saint-Louis prosecutor’s office requested a judicial investigation for murder and that he be placed in pretrial detention.

The DLA directed its candidates and campaign organisations to stop presenting him as its official candidate, warning that violations could lead to disciplinary action. It will decide on its participation in the presidential election after receiving recommendations from its disciplinary committee.
