Haiti: Food insecurity reaches emergency levels, according to the UN

More than six million people in Haiti are suffering from hunger, and nearly two million face emergency-level food insecurity, according to a report released Wednesday by the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC). The report warns that 6.35 million people could face severe hunger by mid-2027 in a country of about 12 million people. Violence, displacement and barriers to markets and farmland are worsening the crisis, while El Niño is bringing drier-than-normal conditions and higher temperatures. The FAO is providing seeds and livestock to help families produce food.
