IAEA brokers Ukraine ceasefire to allow nuclear plant repairs

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it brokered a localized ceasefire around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine to allow vital repairs. The ceasefire took effect on Friday morning and is the sixth temporary truce negotiated by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi since the war began in 2022. The plant had been disconnected from the Dniprovska power line for over two months, relying on a single line and emergency diesel generators. Despite the ceasefire, overnight drone attacks in the Zaporizhia region killed one woman and wounded 16, and a Russian drone strike near Kyiv killed four people.
