NAFDAC destroys fake and substandard products worth N2.6bn in Rivers

NAFDAC destroyed seized counterfeit and substandard products worth an estimated N2.6 billion in Port Harcourt. The goods, including medicines, expired tomatoes, cookies and chemicals, were intercepted by the Nigeria Customs Service at Onne Port between 2025 and 2026. Dr Martins Iluyomade, speaking on behalf of NAFDAC Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, praised cooperation between the two agencies. He said this was the first phase of the destruction, with more seized products to be destroyed in the coming days.

Federal Government Approves ₦40.76bn for Health and Extends Insurance to 90,000 Inmates

Nigeria’s Federal Government approved ₦40.76 billion from the Basic Health Care Provision Fund for the third quarter of 2026, an increase of ₦7.88 billion from the previous quarter. Naegleria fowleri was detected in six artificial lakes in Yucatán, which authorities closed after a water-sports instructor died in Mérida in September. Health Secretary Alberto Alcocer said the amoeba’s presence does not mean there is an outbreak and that infection occurs when contaminated water enters through the nose. More than 300 people who had visited the lake at Plaza La Isla were identified, with about 240 still under epidemiological surveillance in mid-September. Cenotes are less conducive to the amoeba because their water is cooler and circulates.
