Igbo leaders reason Nnamdi Kanu is serving life imprisonment

Former Niger Delta militant leader, General Gabriel Asabuja, stated that Nnamdi Kanu is serving a life sentence because Igbo leaders have failed to unite and pressure the government for his release. He criticized South-East leaders for prioritizing their political interests over demanding Kanu's freedom. Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Abuja on November 20, 2025, and is currently held at the Sokoto correctional facility.
