Igboho seeks a greater security role for traditional rulers

Sunday Igboho called for traditional rulers in Nigeria’s South-West to take a stronger role in security and said the Iru Ekun network has attracted 20,000 volunteers in Oyo State. The network was launched on Sunday at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, following inaugurations in Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun and Ondo; its operations also extend into parts of Kwara and Niger states. Igboho said his trip to Abuja was intended to strengthen the network’s security responsibilities, describing it as an initiative of the region’s traditional institutions. His office said Iru Ekun works with the Nigerian Army, police and DSS to address abductions, killings and other crimes.
