Igweship Tussle: Anambra community writes Soludo, Police over illegal new yam festival

Crisis is brewing in Ihite Community in Orumba South, Anambra State, after the announcement of a date for the new yam festival despite an ongoing dispute over the traditional throne. Chief Timothy Okwudiri Ifurunwa, installed as the traditional ruler in January 2026 by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, was challenged by the traditional council, which secured a court order to annul his coronation. The council petitioned the state government and police to halt the festival to prevent law and order issues, emphasizing that the throne dispute had not been resolved legally.
