IIAG 2026: Benin ranked 5th African country in the fight against corruption – La Nouvelle Tribune

According to the 2026 Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) released on July 11 by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, Benin ranks 5th in Africa in the fight against corruption, with a score of 57.8 points. Rwanda and Seychelles top the ranking, followed by Mauritius (3rd) and Senegal (4th). The index measures states' ability to prevent and sanction corruption in public and private institutions. The report notes an overall improvement across the continent between 2016 and 2025, but considers progress still insufficient.

Appeal Court reserves judgment on appeals against deregistration of ADC, 4 others

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reserved judgment on appeals seeking to set aside the Federal High Court judgment that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties. The other parties are the Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party (AP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). The appellate court had previously stayed execution of the judgment, criticizing Justice Peter Lifu for disregarding a stay of proceedings order. The High Court had ordered deregistration for failing to meet constitutional requirements, barring the parties from participating in the 2027 general elections.
