Illegal Gold Mining: Côte d'Ivoire Aims to Strengthen and Harmonize National Response

The National Security Council held a national workshop on September 4 and 5, 2026, in Yamoussoukro to combat illegal gold mining. Chaired by Fidèle Sarassoro, the event brought together public actors to improve intervention coordination and strengthen local responsibilities. Over 1,000 sites have been cleared between 2021 and 2026, with significant seizures of gold and equipment related to illegal mining.
