IMF: Resumption of Dialogue Paves the Way for New $2.2 Billion Financing

Senegal has resumed dialogue with the IMF, marking a turning point in its public finance management. An IMF mission led by Mercedes Vera Martin visited Dakar from August 19 to September 1, 2026, to discuss a new financing agreement of $2.2 billion. This amount is a negotiation target, and the IMF has not yet officially approved the loan. Senegalese authorities have implemented measures to enhance budget transparency and debt management following the suspension of IMF support in 2024.
