Immigration: Canada Tightens Rules, Refugees Targeted by New Measure

A measure allowing certain refugees to bring family members to Canada ended on September 10, 2026. This policy, established in 2019, provided an exemption for the sponsorship of spouses and undeclared children during permanent residency applications. The Canadian Council for Refugees has requested explanations from Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab regarding this sudden decision. Despite the end of this exception, Canada remains committed to family reunification.
