Benin was elected president of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) for 2026-2028 during the 70th biennial meeting held in Hobart, Australia, from September 27 to October 2, 2026. Urbain Brito, Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, was appointed president, succeeding Amadou Telivel Diallo.
