In New York, the UN and AU agree on the need for continued support for Togo's mediation to resolve the crisis in Eastern DRC

During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the UN and the African Union agreed to support Togo's mediation for the crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the AU Commission, and António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, co-chaired a meeting that also addressed other crises in Africa. A six-month roadmap was adopted in July 2026 to advance the peace process in Eastern DRC.
