In Yemen, dates provide lifeline for farmers with few economic options

In the Hajr district of Yemen, farmers harvest dates, which are their main source of income. Nabeel Ahmed and his family work hard to dry and clean the dates before selling them, while keeping some for their daily consumption. Dates also serve as a food safety net for the poorest families, who use them as a substitute when other foods are unaffordable.
