India deploys police and restricts transport ahead of mass protest in Delhi

India has deployed thousands of police and paramilitary personnel in central Delhi and restricted transportation around the capital ahead of a youth-led protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The rally, organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), is expected to be the largest in a series of nearly daily protests over a voter list revision seen as favoring Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP. Authorities have banned the protest at Jantar Mantar, blocked roads, shut down multiple metro stations, and suspended mobile internet within a 4 km radius, detaining at least 10,000 people including train travelers.

Some temporary works are in place to maintain traffic until permanent structures are built. Nearly six million dollars are allocated to support communities along the route.
