India's Ashok Leyland to start building buses in Mozambique

Indian heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland plans to start assembling buses in Mozambique as early as 2027. Mozambique has invited the company to participate in establishing a bus and coach assembly plant to boost local manufacturing capacity and reduce import reliance. Transport Minister João Matlombe has encouraged proposals for converting diesel buses to natural gas, supporting cleaner transport and local industry development. The project will include electric buses for public transport, aiming to lower costs and improve municipal services, with secondary revenue from maintenance, spare parts, and training.
