INEC: Attacks on Corps Members and Election Officials Will Face Full Legal Consequences

INEC Chairman Joash O. Amupitan warned that anyone who threatens or attacks NYSC members or other election officials during Nigeria’s 2027 general elections will face the full consequences of the law. At a regional meeting in Port Harcourt, he urged South-South electoral staff to remain impartial and disciplined, and said professional misconduct would draw sanctions. The zone has 15,823,550 registered voters, including 3,736,434 in Rivers State; INEC is preparing 57,000 newly procured BVAS devices and strengthening transport arrangements for riverine communities. Amupitan urged the public to take part in reviewing the voter register ahead of the final register’s scheduled publication on December 15, 2026.
