Inside Kazakhstan’s push to become a regional AI centre

Kazakhstan has declared 2026 the 'Year of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence', aiming to introduce advanced technologies across all economic sectors. In 2025, a Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development was established, and an action plan was approved to promote AI literacy in schools and digitize public services. The country also passed a law governing AI, becoming the second jurisdiction after the European Union to do so.
