Instant Payment & PI-SPI: Money Now Circulates 24/7 Across UEMOA

The Interoperable Instant Payment System Platform (PI-SPI) has been operational 24/7 since its launch on September 30, 2025, by the BCEAO. It enables immediate electronic transactions between various financial actors without requiring the same provider. As of April 2, 2026, eighty participants, including fifty-nine commercial banks, are connected, while forty-two other institutions are still in testing phase. The BCEAO has set a deadline of June 30, 2026, for all actors to open their services to customers.
