Investigators mobilized over call for a coup against Bassirou Diomaye Faye

A viral video attributed to Amath Suzanne Camara, a leader of the Alliance for the Republic (APR), appears to show him urging President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to dissolve the National Assembly from December 2, or else calling on the defense and security forces to take power. The prosecutor at Dakar’s High Court has taken up the case and instructed the Special Cybersecurity Division to verify the video’s authenticity and establish the circumstances surrounding the remarks. Camara, a teacher and member of the APR Teachers’ Network, is reportedly expected to be summoned soon. He was previously arrested in July 2024 for insulting the head of state and released on provisional bail in October that year.
