Investor compensation fund swells to Sh6.8bn

The capital markets Investor Compensation Fund (ICF) grew by Sh1 billion to Sh6.84 billion in the year to June 2025, driven by income from government securities and transaction fees from the Nairobi Securities Exchange. Interest income from Treasury bonds and bills increased by 25% to Sh845.96 million, while transaction fees doubled to Sh195.2 million. The fund, established in 1995 to compensate investors up to Sh200,000 in case of broker failure, has seen no withdrawals since the collapses of Nyaga Stockbrokers in 2008 and Discount Securities in 2009, leading to a fivefold increase over the past decade.
