IPOB demands release of detained Igbo men, alleges persecution

IPOB is demanding the release of Igbo people it says are being unlawfully held in Nigerian correctional facilities. The group says a court-ordered release of four men after nearly four years in Department of State Services (DSS) custody exposes wider injustice. Its lawyers say they identified 83 people transferred from Wawa military barracks to correctional facilities in Kuje, Keffi and Suleja, while others are reportedly detained, some serving life sentences in cases linked to alleged IPOB membership. The group also challenges the legality of its proscription and says an appeal over its status is pending before the Supreme Court.
