Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says the country is adopting an “offensive and asymmetrical” defence doctrine, under which Tehran would retaliate and launch an offensive if attacked, potentially targeting neighbouring countries and bases used by US forces. Spokesman Hossein Mohebi said Iran’s missile stockpile had grown 1.5 times since the 12-day war with Israel in June 2025, and that missile range, destructive power and accuracy had improved. Washington has ordered some diplomatic personnel to leave Saudi Arabia, while media reports say the US and Israel are planning possible attacks on Iran in the coming weeks.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he was “not surprised” by the news. The arrest comes as Germany raised its threat level for Russian sabotage to “significant,” following discoveries of explosives-laden drones near military facilities and Leipzig/Halle Airport.
