Israel election results 2026: When will we know who won and what’s next?

Israelis are voting in the first election since the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023, amid the war on Gaza, escalating violence in the occupied West Bank and regional tensions. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces questions over failures preceding the attack, efforts to retrieve captives, alleged corruption and ultra-Orthodox military conscription. The final-poll average cited by Haaretz gives Netanyahu’s bloc 50 seats and the opposition led by Gadi Eisenkot 54; 61 of the Knesset’s 120 seats are needed for a majority. Polls opened at 7am and close at 10pm local time, with about 7.3 million eligible voters, including 1.2 million Palestinian citizens of Israel.

Netanyahu outlines achievements and future plans as Likud leads Israeli polls

After polls closed in Israel’s legislative election, Benjamin Netanyahu said a right-wing government was needed to ensure Israel’s long-term security and ruled out relying on Arab parties. With more than half of ballots counted, projections gave Netanyahu’s bloc 56 seats and Gadi Eisenkot’s alliance 49, leaving neither with a clear path to a majority. Likud was projected to win 27 seats, compared with 21 for Eisenkot’s Yashar party, and Netanyahu said final results would take another day or two. He also touted achievements since returning to office in 2022, citing the deaths of leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran, and security zones established in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria.

Congo Nouveau: “As the public expected a condemnation of the FRN, in Rome the C64 puts Tshisekedi and Kabila in the dock”

Meeting in Rome from October 25 to 27, the Article 64 Coalition (C64) said it wants to meet separately with President Félix Tshisekedi and his predecessor Joseph Kabila to encourage inclusive national dialogue and seek a political solution to the crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Congo Nouveau argued that the coalition risks sending an ambiguous message by acting as a mediator, as Kabila has just been appointed head of the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN). Le Potentiel described the initiative as high-risk, while noting that the C64 supports constitutional order and firmly condemns seizing power by force and a proposed constitutional coup. The coalition says it is pursuing its initiative in full respect of the Constitution, territorial integrity, and the protection of the Congolese people.
