Italy: Indians recover wages and rights after exploitation allegations

An amicable settlement of nearly 31 million euros was reached between Milan prosecutors, American company Caddell Construction, and the judicial administrator to compensate around 300 foreign workers paid less than $2 an hour during the construction of the new US consulate in Milan. Italian Labour Minister Marina Calderone called this one of the most significant operations against illegal labor exploitation. The workers will receive an average of 50,000 euros each, and criminal investigations against the company and its leaders are ongoing.
