Ituri authorities relocate displaced persons from Kigonze and ISP/Bunia sites

The provincial government of Ituri confirmed the permanent relocation of the Kigonze displacement site, which housed nearly 19,000 people, and the ISP site in Bunia, hosting around 13,000, to the outskirts of the city. The decision, based on security concerns, aims to prevent armed groups from using these sites as refuges. Since the site of Kigonze was sealed off on September 20, many displaced persons have left, some staying with host families, others without durable housing. The relocation of the ISP site is also planned with the support of humanitarian partners, but it raises concerns among human rights organizations.
