Ituri: Launch of a Registration Operation for Displaced Persons Aiming for Voluntary Return

On October 8, the provincial government of Ituri and humanitarian partners launched a registration operation for displaced persons wishing to return to their villages, starting at the Savo plain site with around 70,000 residents living in difficult conditions since 2017. The campaign aims to facilitate voluntary return and assess reintegration needs, although security remains fragile and disarmament processes are not underway. The operation also takes place in Bunia, including Kigonze and ISP sites, which together host over 30,000 displaced persons, with around 19,000 having left Kigonze following a security sweep by authorities.
