Ituri’s military governor, General Gaby Kasongo, left Bunia for Kinshasa on Monday, October 26, aboard a Mont Gabaon aircraft. The provincial governor’s office said he was on an official mission with North Kivu’s military governor to discuss conditions in the two provinces under a state of siege. Other sources cited investigations and consultations at the Ministry of the Interior concerning security and governance in Ituri. His departure came days after Max Nissan Amande, the president’s envoy for mediation and conflict resolution in Ituri, also travelled to Kinshasa.
