Ivory Coast: Laurent Gbagbo Remains at the Head of His Party

Laurent Gbagbo was re-elected as president of the African People's Party - Côte d'Ivoire during its first ordinary congress, despite his stated intention to step down at the end of 2025. At nearly 81 years old, he was warmly welcomed by his supporters at the Treichville Congress Palace in Abidjan. His party boycotted the December 2025 legislative elections and currently has no deputies, having also failed to support a candidate in the October 2025 presidential election.
