Ivory Coast: Suspect confesses to killing young woman after a taunt

A 20-year-old Ivorian man arrested on October 27, 2026, is suspected of killing D.A.P., 18, whose body was found on September 4 in a rubbish dump in Gonzagueville, Port-Bouët, Abidjan. On television, he said the victim had mocked his income, saying a boy without 150,000 CFA francs was a “red flag,” and that this had frustrated him. The Criminal Police Directorate gave a different account: an argument allegedly began after he proposed sex, which she refused, during a conversation about her iPhone 12. In that account, he struck her with a piece of wood and took her body to the dump; he was due to appear before the Abidjan prosecutor on October 28.
